Frequently asked questions

What student discounts are available?

Hundreds of brands offer student discounts. The most useful ones for college students are: Spotify Premium ($5.99/mo with Hulu), Amazon Prime Student (50% off, free 6-month trial), Apple education pricing (up to $100 off Macs and iPads, now UNiDAYS-verified), Adobe Creative Cloud Pro ($19.99/mo first year, $39.99/mo after vs $69.99/mo retail), Microsoft 365 (free for verified students), GitHub Student Developer Pack (200+ free dev tools), Notion Plus (free with .edu), Figma (free education plan), and Canva Pro (free for education).

How do I verify my student status?

Most student discounts use one of three verification systems: UNiDAYS, Student Beans, or SheerID/ID.me. You sign up once with your university email or upload a student ID, and the platform verifies your status automatically. Verification typically takes minutes and is good for 12 months. Apple's Education Store moved to UNiDAYS verification in May 2026 (the old .edu-email loophole closed). Microsoft 365 Education still verifies directly via your school-issued email at checkout.

Are student discounts available year-round?

Yes. Most student discounts run year-round and are not tied to back-to-school season. The discount itself rarely changes, but brands sometimes layer additional promotions during July–August (back-to-school) and November (Black Friday) — so the deepest savings happen in those windows.

Can I use student discounts after I graduate?

It depends on the program and how you got verified. If you go on to grad school, you generally stay eligible — most programs verify by current enrollment, not by degree, so a master's or PhD keeps you in. Spotify Premium Student runs up to 4 years total of reverification (12 months at a time), so it can carry you through a master's program even if you started as an undergrad. Amazon offers two paths: enrollment-based Prime Student (up to 4 years OR until you graduate, whichever comes first) AND age-based Prime for Young Adults (any 18–24 year old qualifies regardless of school status, ending at age 25). Apple education pricing is tied to current enrollment only. Annual plans purchased while still verified usually run their full term even if you graduate mid-subscription — so timing your renewal right before graduation can buy you an extra year on most programs.

Do high school students get discounts too?

More than you'd think — though fewer than college students get. Three patterns to know: (1) Student Beans explicitly accepts anyone 16+ in full-time education, including high school, sixth form, and apprenticeships — that unlocks discounts at Apple, Nike, Adidas, ASOS, Microsoft, and hundreds of others through their platform. (2) Many brands set an age floor instead of a school requirement: UGG (16+), HP (13+), Amtrak (17–24), Hollister/Aerie/American Eagle (UNiDAYS, 16+), and most fashion partners on UNiDAYS. (3) Apple's education pricing covers students at ALL levels (K-12 included), plus teachers, faculty, and homeschool educators — not just college. Microsoft 365 Education is free for any student with a school-issued email, K-12 too. What's still mostly college-only: SheerID-verified programs like Spotify Premium Student, Amazon Prime Student (enrollment-based path), and most software discounts (Adobe, GitHub Student Pack). When in doubt, ask at checkout or try a Student Beans account with your high school ID — it costs nothing to find out.
